Cover!

I photographed a job for "The Magazine Antiques" awhile back at The Gamble House in Pasadena. I turned in quite a few photos that they used in the story. To my surprise, they chose one of my photos for the cover.

The Gamble House is a craftsman-style home built by architects, Greene and Greene in 1908. It's a very impressive estate and worth visiting. The story is called "Two Arts and Crafts Houses: Paradigms in Pasadena and Boston" by Maureen Meister.
The magazine is available now for purchase at your finer newstands.

Historic Architectural Photography

Historic Highland Park, Los Angeles
I often photograph historic homes and sites for the Los Angeles Conservancy's brochures and tour pamphlets. Below are photographs of some historic homes, their architectural details and locations in the HPOZ area of Highland Park (North East Los Angeles).

There are many HPOZ (Historic Preservation Overlay Zones) in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Conservancy's description: "An HPOZ is a City-designated historic district composed of a group of buildings (either an entire neighborhood or part of a neighborhood) which are related to one another historically, architecturally and/or culturally."

Please contact me If you would like a photograph of your historic building, interior or exterior.

Fine Art Photography

Underhill Adjusts a Painting @ Copro-Nason Gallery

I photograph shows at Copro-Nason Art Gallery at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, as well as for and others and for various L.A. artists (SHAG, Joe Vaux, Audrey Kawasaki, Dennis Larkins, Jerico Woggon, Mike Shinoda and more). My transparencies are later used for the print media or to reproduce giclees (fine art prints of paintings). Photographing paintings in the proper light so that the reproduction looks as good as the actual painting is an exact art I have been a professional photographer for 30 years and understand the importance of exact representation through photography.
Affixing Black & White Register
There is a precise science to this art of copying paintings. I must to set up the lights so that the color and focus are perfect. If I am photographing paintings of varying sizes, then I have to realign, re-adjust and re-measure everything. This is a long and drawn out process in a gallery full of paintings to copy.
Checking Alignment
Copro-Nason Gallery recently released a new book called "Copro/Nason Fine Art - a Catalogue Raisonné". There are over 450 images on 275 pages. I photographed most of the artwork for the book. It's a marvelous volume containing the history of the lowbrow art movement and over 15 years of exhibition history of the gallery.

Architectural Photography

I photograph architecture for conservation groups, including the Balboa Highlands Neighborhood. Below are examples of homes built by developer Joseph Eichler in the mid-1960's.
